About the Project
HereAfterHere is a dance-theatre project based around people's conceptions of an afterlife. The Bible, the Qu'ran, Blake, Milton, even the New Yorker cartoonists, all celebrate the human capacity to imagine a place where none of us have yet gone. So we will collectively imagine the unimaginable . . . and the inevitable.
We are asking you to contribute your thoughts on this topic, to be part of the research aspect of the work. Some may be included in the text and woven into the piece.
HereAfterHere will be a mix of the poignant, the comic, and the chimerical. It will combine our long-term use of dance, circus and visual narratives to make a mosaic of post-mortem maps: clear lights, pearly gates, infernos, salvation, re-incarnation, the angelic and the devilish . . . or whatever your vision might be . . . in short, a topography of Paradise.
The work, directed and choreographed by Tandy Beal, will premiere October 2007, with music by Jon Scoville, video by Ellen Bromberg, Jess Damsen, Eric Theirmann, Denise Gallant and Bruce Lee.
The project is funded in part by the James T. Irvine Foundation and Theatre Bay Area.
